There are 2 ways to get to Utila from the mainland, flying or taking a bus from San Pedro Sula to LaCeiba and The Utila Princess (the ferry) to the island.

Fly into Roatan, LaCeiba or San Pedro Sula. From any of these places you can take commuter flights on into Utila. Commuter flights are provided by Sosa or Atlantic Airlines. It is best to arrive in Honduras in the morning or early afternoon in order to catch a commuter flight on to Utila. A late afternoon arrival in San Pedro Sula or Roatan will require an overnight stay. DO NOT PLAN TO LEAVE UTILA ON A SUNDAY as there are no morning flights to connect with your returning flight to your country of origin. Once you book your flight let us know your arrival time so we can reserve your tickets in advance of your coming.

The flights cost the same on either Atlantic or Sosa. At the present time, there are no afternoon flights, to Utila, on Tuesdays or Thursdays. (Charters can be arranged)

San Pedro Sula to Utila about $90.00 one way

If you would like to take a bus between San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba, Hedman Alas and Viana offer deluxe bus service. It will take approximately 3 hours to travel from San Pedro Sula to LaCeiba, on a first class bus, and the cost is approximately $15.00.

There is one ferry that services Utila, to and from LaCeiba.

TRAVEL TIPS
Unfortunately the airlines do not always deliver your luggage on time. They usually do not lose your luggage, it just gets left behind to be delivered a day or two later on Utila. Please carry in your hand-luggage the following:

1. Extra pair of clothes
2. Toothbrush
3. Medication, contact lenses, prescription masks, etc
4. C-card: You can not dive if you do not have your C-Card…

Make sure your personal information is on all pieces of baggage as well as inside your luggage. If luggage is borrowed, please make sure identification is your own, not that of the person you borrowed it from!

WHAT TO PACK:

* Insect repellant is recommended (High DEET Content). Repellant is also sold on the island but at a higher cost.
* Pack light-weight, comfortable clothing. Casual clothing is acceptable throughout the Utila.
* A long-sleeved shirt and long pants are recommended for hiking.
* Hats and sunscreen are recommended.
* Travelers checks are widely accepted. Most dive shops will accept Visa and MasterCard as payment also.
* Aspirin, antihistamine, Imodium, anti-itch creams, and any other treatments your physician may prescribe or recommend for foreign travel.
* You are advised to bring lightweight rain gear if you are traveling from October through January.
